My story is kinda strange. I had always had a belief in the Force and weaved it into much of my creative writing and ideas on magic and mysticism. In fact, I had a belief in the Force back when I was an atheist.
I went through many paths afterwards, especially being a Pagan there are so many esoteric paths in Pagan religions that it is insane. I've been involved in the Golden Dawn, investigated Thelema, studied ceremonial magic in general, Solomanic magic, alchemy, kabbalah, Wicca, witchcraft, shamanic practices--pretty much you name it and I've studied it and perhaps even practiced it.
In the end, I got nowhere and was frustrated, and hung up my hat, so to speak. Some months ago after figuring out what I wanted versus getting hung up in the "tools", so to speak, it came down to a few things:
1) desiring balance of self and environment
2) self knowledge and mastery
3) mysticism; experience of the ineffable
4) Will and energy work
5) meditation
6) alchemy
Re-examining my belief in the Force as well as my experiences with it convinced me that perhaps in getting back to the basics, I belonged on a Jedi path--which, frankly, has suited me very well so far. I am now taking Aikido, T'ai Chi, and Yoga classes, have taken up meditating again, and doing energy work. It's working out well for me and I feel that things are progressing.
My only frustrations thus far have been finding places to learn. I feel like I'm making up a rulebook as I go along, trying to find existing teachings that help me to deal with what I am dealing. I have since given up finding groups or people that will teach you; my best and most rewarding experiences have been through working with peers and acting as a study group. I think that with our combined strengths and weaknesses, we can move forward and help each other. We're all in this together.
Hence why I am very glad for this board and a few select emailing lists that I belong to.
