I became aware of the Force at 7 years old when I first heard Obi Wan speak of it. I knew that this "energy field that surrounds us and binds us" meant something more to me than simple movie dialogue even at 7y.o. I knew I wanted to be a Jedi even though I had no idea what they were. I would say I was strong in the Force long before that though.
I indeed have strived to live the Jedi way my whole life. There is not a day I wake that it doesn't enter my thinking. It is a way of life for me. I am struck by the "Jedi" mentors I have learned from in my journey of living the Jedi way; from my grandmother (R.I.P), my mom, my stepdad and others. From a few teachers that taught me more than what was in the text books, to my karate Sensei.
I have to say that I have learned some of the best lessons on the living force and not focusing on my anxieties; on keeping my focus on the here and now from my dogs (dogs are born Jedi). From my wife who keeps reminding me that I don't have to "BE ANYTHING" (from emotions to something I'm not) but that I should just "BE". And, lastly from my new son, born in September; who'd have thought someone who can't even speak words can teach me so much about living the Jedi way.
I consider all of them my Jedi teachers even though they may not know it. They taught or are currently teaching me how to walk the Jedi path.
Having said that I would consider myself a Shadow Jedi. I seek to know both light and dark and I strive to find and maintain the balance. In my youth, I like a lot of people desired and experienced the temptations that make so many fall to the dark. I met one person in particular that showed me the path of shadows. I realized that there was a darker world out there and I needed to understand its ways. Having said that I did not fall to the dark but I do know it.
I am a martial artist. I train daily and also teach Wado Ryu Karate. I also practice other martial arts and self defense forms as a supplement to my Wado training. I believe physical health is important to spiritual and mental health and I gain a sense of calm when training. I would describe it as close to zen as one can get. It is my "therapy". I meditate daily before and after training and seem to feel closer to the Force when I'm focused in these moments.
I balance "sword" with pen in that I am a graphic artist by trade. Art is the only other time I really experience a zen like focus and calm. So much so that I consider my personal art projects to be a form of meditation and also help me to feel the Force. It may also help that many of my personal art projects are Star Wars related.
I hope to gain more knowlege here and understand the ways of the Force better so that I can continue to find balance.
