I posted this over at my hose site but I thought I would post it here too as I think it is appropriate for this section and fitting!!
I literally just returned from seeing the movie. To say the least it was excellently done. It really did not focus on the actual event but rather a story within that day. If you didn't know what really happened that day it would have been difficult to exactly figure out what was going on at times in the movie just because they focused on the story of the two guys. This movie was strictly based on emotions! It really did an excellent job at capturing the emotions people were feeling that day. I won't go much into the story as it's fairly simplistic and I don't want to take anything away form people who do want to still see it. Overall aside from the story the movie focused on it was about seeing and experiencing the emotions of that day, and as I said, it was very tastefully done.
I don't really have much to say in regards to a response to the movie other than I thought it was excellent. As I was driving home and reflecting on the movie it really just struck me. I know I have always felt this way but, I don't know, it's really hard to say what I mean. The thought that occurred to me is on all of these forums in the Jedi community and something I see everyday. In that movie and from my memories of that day and the weeks following people were just people. It didn't matter who you were, we were seeing the good in all people no matter what country you were from. People no matter what differences or problems that typically existed didn't let that get in the way, no matter where they were in the world. I know I am not explaining this well as it's difficult to put into words exactly what I mean. Within the Jedi community there is so much discussion on how I think a Jedi should be this or that, you are wrong, my way is better, you are not enough of a Jedi, you can't let go of your ego, and etc. The root of Jedi is our belief in the Force, no matter where you are or any of your beliefs, if you say you are a Jedi you have a belief in the Force. Now lets put that aside. What else makes you a Jedi, are you a philosopher, martial artist, teacher, healer? You can be all of those or none of those to be a Jedi. It just occurred to me that the number one thing that makes us a Jedi aside from our belief in the Force is that we are a good person. I'm not looking to get into a debate of what makes a good person, look into your heart and listen to the Force, I mean really listen! Only then will you know what it means to be a good person and I don't mean being a good person to just yourself, friends, and family, but everyone.
There is so much hate and anger in this world. Some of it's on a small personal scale like someone just having a bad day or on a larger scale like you see with many of the terrorists. Hate isn’t about the person that is hated; it is about the person that hates. We can’t control people’s hate!! We can go and be a good person and be that by example. Not just sit here on the computer and see who is a better philosopher and etc., but really go out and be a good person. I am not going to explain what a good person is as that is something personal and it is very broad. So to me a Jedi is someone who believes in the Force and is a good person. Look at the code, truisms/maxims, and anything else that’s been written, it all goes back to being a good person. Not just good to your family and friends but to everyone. How many times can you think of a situation that you were in that when you walked away you just thought they were a horrible person or something similar? I can think of numerous occasions. This does not mean that person is horrible or just a mean person, they may be just having a bad day. I can’t even count how many times I have made someone smile when they are having a bad day by just being a good person. We talk about so many things on such a large scale but what about the small things. If you have a lot of items at the grocery store and someone comes up with only a few things let them in front of you. Hold a door open for someone that is coming in or out of a building. There are so many small things you can do that you may not know the effect it will have on people. I can remember times when I’ve been having one of those days as we all know and being in a huge line somewhere and someone asks if I would like to go up front since I only have a few items. Just that small act can have a bigger effect than you think. Watching this movie and hearing stories from the actual day, you see all the rescuers applauding, hundreds or rescuers applauding when two people are pulled out of the rubble. In the midst of such massive devastation the small act of saving a life, they may not have even done much aside from moving some rocks or just helping hand the gurney down the line. They were cheering, hugging, crying, and giving high-fives even though they may have been standing above hundreds other that were dead. Remember it’s always about the big things in life. All of this, even though it’s a little scattered goes back to my main point. It’s about being a good person. We must never lose this!!
I get tired of hearing people say there are no Jedi. If you believe in the Force and you are a good person, you are a Jedi. All of that other stuff is just details. Yeah, we need to understand concepts, philosophies and all of that other important stuff but the root to being a Jedi is a belief in the Force and being a good person.
I know this is very scattered but it’s just something I had to write in response to the movie. I’m sure as things settle in some more I may have some additions or other thoughts. This movie really helped me reaffirm why I am here, why I believe what I do, and what I am doing in life. I am a teacher and I can not wait to get into a full-time job where I can start passing on what it means to be a good person. A teacher is someone who not only teaches knowledge but also teaches through example what it is to be a good person. We are all teachers here because we teach by example!!
