Two self-styled Jedi Knights are stepping up an intergalactic campaign for formal recognition. Umada and Yunyun, also known as John Wilkinson and Charlotte Law, want the UN to acknowledge "The Force" is worthy of being called a religion. The couple claim to be part of the UK's fourth largest religious group, after 400,000 people recorded their faith as "Jedi" in the 2001 Census. They say that as a religion, they deserve tolerance and respect. November the 16th is the annual International Day for Tolerance. uk.news.yahoo.com/16112006/140/pair-use-force-jedi-religion.html

It would be real nice if the U.N. excepted the Jedi and use of the Force as another religion. It would be a start since the Sith would be next.

It would also be real nice if "democracy" actually existed...er, actually, it wouldn't. It would be complete pandemonium. I actually meant it would be nice if Communism (not communism (little "c")) existed. Sad fact is that it doesn't.

Yes I must agree it would be nice, but I'll play the bad guy here and raise the most evil of all questions: Would anyone take it as a legitimate and serious religion or as just a bunch of Star Wars nerds talking about SW's all the time. Believe me I know that everyone here is very serious as am I. I just wanna see what you all think. And by no means do I think that we are all a bunch of nerds (not that being a nerd is a bad thing, but im not).

It is unfortunate, but most would paint it as a fanish gthering rather than an actual religion. In the beginning we would have no credibility and would face persecution as "over-eager fans." It is also unfortunate, but some would either join because they were such, and others would join simply to discredit our following. In time, though, we will prove to the world that we are legitimate and not what most would assume of us.

I wouldn't mind at all what they recognize or not.

Nor would I. However it is not always what we think, but instead it is of what others think that makes or breaks a situation, movement, etc.

The thing is...if you really think about it, a religion based on a movie is no more silly than existing religions. Star Wars is "fiction" right? But think of how so-called real religions are hard pressed to prove to people that the happenings in their scriptures are actual events and not just stories. Some "events" of certain religions are even obvious fictions. I think that those who mock the Star Wars religionists do so out of their own weakness, the vulnerability of their own religious fictions they cannot prove as fact.

Of course they do so out of their own weakness! Why is there so much fear in the world? Because people fear what they cannot comprehend and understand.

The problem for them is they have no power behind them so they have no respect. All the bigger religions have large organized populist groups and have lobbies and networks with huge amounts of money and influence to draw from. That is why the Christian right gets to meet with the leader of the White House and be taken seriously and the Representatives of Jedism will be laughed at.

I say we all band together in front of the white house, and Make known how large our numbers truly are and how serious this is for us(ish.. I suspect some members just joined for the H311 of it)

The newer members, since the place quieted down, seem to have joined just for the hell of it. However, there was a time when all the members here took their spiritual path seriously and those who joined for no real reason either learned here and stayed, or eventually stopped visiting the site.

The relevent question is does such recognition truly matter? I was under the assumption such things were not the jedi way....and even less so the sith who would most likely rather not have such recognition.

I think recognition would be nice. People would know us for who we are.
