Fear Two
"You traveled the world... Now you must journey in wards... to what you really fear... it's inside you... there is no turning back. Your parents' death was not your fault. Your training is nothing. The will is everything. If you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, you become something else entirely. Are you ready to begin?"
A quote that really stuck out to me when I watched Batman Begins recently and I shall base the large amount of the lesson on it.
We as human beings tend to think we are invincible (not everyone) and are immune to fear. This of course is not in the least bit true. Show a man his true fear and he shall crumple and fade like a withered leaf.
"You traveled the world... Now you must journey in wards... to what you really fear... it's inside you... there is no turning back."
We too must journey inwards and find our deepest fears. Once they have been found we must cup our mental "hand" around it and pull it into the light. Examine it. Why do you fear it? How do you fear it? When do you fear it the most?
With each question answer thoroughly.
"The will is everything"
and indeed it is. When dealing with fear and tough opposition you must once again turn inward. Why are you fighting? Is what you are fighting for right (at least to you)? Are you gaining anything by fighting? If you answered no to the latter than you should not be fighting or resisting at all! By wasting your time fighting you are draining what defense you have built up and the more you do this the more susceptible you are to the things that truly cause harm. Your will is built up by the things you cherish the most. Therefore the obvious question arises "What happens when all that you cherish has been destroyed?". If that is the case you must find your new will in your anger and hatred. Let them become your will. But one must think " Have I truly lost everything?" and the answer is no. No matter what there will always be something more to fight for, something more to put your being into, something more to build up. Only once your life is over have you truly lost, and even then I am not certain you have lost all.
"If you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, you become something else entirely."
A man who makes himself an ideal or more specifically an idea, can never truly die. His ideals/idea will always live on in the hearts of those who harbor and shelter it. A man who does not serve an Ideal is a man more broken than a man burdened with all the fear in the world. The man with the Ideal can lean on it in time of pain and struggle and use its power to boost his own. Therefore we must ask ourselves what are our Ideals/ Ideas? To serve humanity and the better good? To protect those who need protection? To spread havoc and dismay or to better ones self constantly? No matter what sides you say you are on there is something you gain strength from. A symbolic Ideal in which you gain string from. Without it fear shall consume you entirely.
And the final step...
