A sith manipulates. That is a great quality of becoming a Sith. I do it, you do it, Palpatine does it. It is a very wise thing to do when trying to get someone to do what you want them to do. You go up to some one about to eat ice cream and you say... 'hay, I like that ice-cream flavor you are eating. But, I must tell you. It is the leading in cases for heart disease.' Now, hopefully you've scared them into hiding. Unless they are a Doctor. That is the problem with lying. There is always the unless. And we don't like unlesses. Becuase they are dangeoruous. Very dangerous. Mainly because it can obliviate your spectrum of truth you are creating when you lie for maipulation. For instance, if the doctor knew that you were lying they woud tell you otherwise. So that is it for now. Next month we will talk about how to manipulate someone.

manipulation is about more than just lying. It is about deception. I bet your saying isn't that the same thing as lying, and it is not. Deception if a funny thing because if you do it right, you are able to use the truth to your own ends. And when using deception it takes out the unlesses. You can only have the unlesses when you lie. But when you base what you are saying with truth, there is no denying that.
One of the greatest deceptions of all time is the story of Adam and Eve. Reading what the serpent said to her was not a lie, but he used truth to get her to eat the apple. The thing about the truth though was that he left it up to her own interpretation. Just because somebody say something true doesn't mean they will take it the same way as you.
So manipulation is more than just lying to somebody, a lie will only get you so far. And when you lie you have to tell 50 more to cover that little one. But learning the art of deception is the way to use the truth to your own needs.

I don't know about mastery of deception, but I have many tricks that I use:
1. Use gradual manipulations, dont force your hand to be played to quickly.
2. Let them always think they are on top.
3. Don't always do the manipulations yourself. If possible have a friend relay your "tampered with" information to the person being manipulated. This is good for 2 things: One the person can now blame some one other than you if your attempts are discovered. Two the person might not trust you if he keeps seeing you all over the place.
4. If possible mess with their head. They, in a shaken state of mind, might make decisions which are of advantage to you.
5. Become their friend. The closer you are to them the more secrets you might discover about them that would be able to be put to use under your control.
These are just suggestions. I have used many of them, but your situations might be different and therefore you wouldn't be able to use them.
