Mantras are chants used during meditation to help calm and focus the mind, and often are saying which have profound meaning. Common mantras include "Om mani padme hum" (Behold! the jewel in the lotus), "Sat nam" (truth-identity or truth is my identity), or even deity specific ones such as "Om tare tuttare ture soha" which is the Tibetan Tara's mantra.
Another good mantra to use is the Buddhist refuge vow, which I find to be VERY Jedi in its spirit:
Affirmations are statements of intent and purpose which stated repeatedly are said to produce a similar result: "I will lose this weight", "I will pass this test", "I will get a raise and a promotion". Stated over and over again, you convince yourself of the positive quality phrased in the statement and it allows you to do whatever it is that you need to do.
All in all, the statements aren't terribly dissimilar from certain basic forms of magick. But like all forms of magick they must be backed up with Real World action. All too often once the statement sinks in, the proper alchemy takes place within the self to produce the right actions needed to make the statement complete.
As Jedi, we know that words have power as do our thoughts. We know that to control our thoughts means to be able to control our actions, and thusly determine the course of our lives.
A suggested use of mantras or affirmations is to memorize the Jedi Code and recite it within your head whenever possible--while meditating, during your commute, while you're in the shower, over a meal, et cetera. Contemplate what it means for you, if you wish, or just let the thoughts arise as you recite it in your head.
Recite this as often as possible and let the words sink into you--and see what arises from your life! This is an excellent way to change your life, as change starts from within.

Until I am enlightened,
I go for refuge to the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.
Through the virtue I create by practicing giving and the other perfections,
may I become a Buddha to benefit all sentient beings.

There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.
