Okay, this may seem... odd, but it works (to the extent possible in the realistic, materialistic world in which we inhabit, anyways)
First, you need a quiet space, or, if you find that that setting won't work, you can play some evil/psychotic/bloodthirsty/crazy music(the crazier the better). Next, think of a situation that makes you Very angry at the mere THOUGHT of it. Then, take that situation( or person; thing; place; music, whichever works best) and try to visualize it morphing into a ball of impenetrable darkness.take that ball and imagine it setlin' ( yes, I know I spelled that incorrectly) onto the palm of your hand. Finally absorb the darkness into yourself. You should feel quite a bit stronger after a while...
Well, that's my lesson of the century, and I hope you HATE (or, actually, like) it.

My comment: a very useful type of meditation, I use techniques/methods similar to this as part of my daily meditations. A meditation of this sort strengthens the conscious emotion you are using, and while it helps you gain control over it, the emotion grows in strength quickly so ruthless control must grow in strength as well. Everyone should also be careful not to "burn out", so to speak.
On a personal note, about a year ago I was so immersed in anger for every waking moment that I thought I was burnt out. However, time showed me that I'd cultivated the emotion so much that I was always feeling anger, I just didn't notice because the emotion was constant, when I thought I was angry, others saw me as absolutely furious. I now have more control over my emotions.

there seems to be a difference if one allows the darkness to enter the body at large and if it is focused up the arm and into the chakras, the latter being much more intense but of course requires some basic working with the chakras before attempting

Another would be finding something or someone you are angry about. Let it fester into hatred and let that hatred be your passion. Feed the passion to the fire within your self and let it burn bright. The fire is streangth and power but most of all it is the dark side.
