Overcoming attachment does not mean becoming cold and indifferent. On the contrary, it means learning to have relaxed control over our mind through understanding the real causes of happiness and fulfillment, and this enables us to enjoy life more and suffer less.
-Kathleen McDonald, "How to Meditate"
A lot of people read the Jedi code on "There is no emotion, there is peace; there is no passion, there is serenity" and frequently confuse the idea of being able to master and control your emotions and passions with lacking them altogether.
Emotions are transient. At this very moment, you may want a chocolate chip cookie (heck who wouldn't, lol). But if you had that chocolate chip cookie, would that emotion last? How would you feel once the cookie was gone?
Learning what desires and emotions you have that are meaningful and WILL last will go a long way in being able to be mindful of yourself and your reactions to your internal processes.
