A short article on the first line of the Jedi code “There is no Emotion ; There is Peace.”
“There is no Emotion ; There is peace” is the first line of the Jedi code. Although most of the Jedi code can be misinterpreted each one has its different reasons. This line of the Jedi code if taken literally implies that Jedi have no emotions and so everything to them is peaceful. This is not at all true. The code should not be taken literally. This line of the code mean’s a few things and has a few different actions for a Jedi to do. Ultimately this line means that the Jedi control their emotions so they can act of peace. But what do Jedi do to use this line of the code in daily life? Well Jedi do not get their emotions involved in other people’s affairs. If a Jedi is helping someone with a problem their emotions should not be involved as that can only make things worse. Another concept of this line is being able to live in the present. Qui-Gon Jinn stated in episode I to live in the moment. By living in the moment we are at peace. The future and the past can effect our emotions. Example if we done something bad in the past it can make us feel guilty therefore we are not at peace, or if we look to the future for someone to die or something that also can make us feel sad and depressed therefore not at peace. So living in the present takes away those emotions such as sadness, depression, anger, fear, aggression, hate. A Jedi should do their best to keep the peace wherever they go. It is a Jedi’s duty to keep the peace. Also looking to the future can make us want to rush something, therefore we miss some of the important parts before it. Living in the present makes things easier. Jedi are not to be impatient. Therefore living in the present also keeps us patient.
